One of the most flavorful cocktail techniques making its way into home bars is fat washing. By infusing bourbon with browned butter and then chilling and removing the fat, the spirit captures rich, nutty flavors and a velvety texture. In Best Friend Bourbon, the caramel and vanilla notes amplify the butter’s richness, while its darker tobacco and fruit undertones add balance and depth.
Use this recipe to make brown butter fat-washed Best Friend Bourbon
-
1 cup Best Friend Bourbon
-
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
-
Brown the Butter
In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and cook until it turns golden brown and develops a nutty aroma. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. -
Combine with Bourbon
Pour the bourbon into a sealable jar and add the browned butter. Seal and gently shake to combine. -
Infuse
Let the mixture sit at room temperature for about 3–4 hours, allowing the bourbon to absorb the butter’s rich flavor. -
Freeze
Place the jar in the freezer for several hours or overnight. The butter will solidify on top. -
Strain
Remove the hardened butter and strain the bourbon through a coffee filter or fine strainer to remove any remaining particles.
